Llevando semillas a Colombia
En Colombia, durante los años sesenta, se cultivaban pocas variedades de flores. Y no industrialmente. A pesar de ser un país muy rico y tener las condiciones climáticas propicias para el cultivo de todo tipo de flores, se limitaba a unas pocas variedades, como rosas, claveles, gipsofilias y crisantemos.
Ball Hort manejaba muchas semillas de flores que no se cultivaban en Colombia y decidieron dar el primer paso trayendo semillas de Boca de Dragón y Aster Callistephus. Así fue como se fundó la empresa Ball SB.
De las flores de verano a las flores cortadas
Las flores de verano son conocidas por estar en los jardines de las abuelas en verano, de ahí su nombre, pero debido a la selección e hibridación se han convertido en flores de corte, más altas y fuertes, con nuevas formas y colores, utilizadas en floreros de buen tamaño.
Con estas variedades, el negocio de los bouquets se fortaleció
Con el tiempo, este legado fue encomendado a Joaquín De La Torre en 1992. Un hombre visionario que tiene la capacidad de sacar lo mejor de todos sus colaboradores.
En su primera feria floral en Colombia, Joaquín importó y presentó estas variedades. A pesar de que todos a su alrededor decían que, aunque fueran vistosas, no serían flores de éxito.
Sin embargo, con estas variedades, el negocio de los bouquets se hizo cada vez más fuerte. Al final, todos quedaron encantados con las Boca de Dragón y Aster Callistephus, a quienes ahora se unieron las veridades Girasoles y Alhelí De Invierno. (Matthiolas).
También plugs
Fue tal el éxito que Ball SB pasó de vender solo semillas a fabricar plugs y vender bandejas llenas de ellas a lo largo de los años. Su lema entonces era: "Si no germina, Ball SB te lo germina".
35 especies y 5 programas de cría
Treinta años después, manejan más de 35 especies, lideran 5 programas de mejoramiento (Gypsofilia, Limoniums, Astromelia, Crisantemo y Dianthus) y el mercado en Colombia, Ecuador, México, Centroamérica, el Caribe y Kenia.

Bringing seeds to Colombia
In Colombia, during the sixties, few varieties of flowers were grown. And not industrially. Despite being a very rich country and having the climatic conditions conducive to growing all kinds of flowers, was limited to only a few varieties, such as roses, carnations, Gypsophila, and Chrysanthemums.
Ball Hort handled many flower seeds that were not grown in Colombia and they decided to take the first step bringing seeds from Snapdragon and Aster Callistephus. And Ball SB company was founded.
From summer flowers to cut flowers
Summer flowers are known to be in the gardens of grandmothers in the summer, hence their name, but due to selection and hybridization, they have become cut flowers, taller and stronger, with new shapes and colors, used in vases of good size.
With these varieties, the bouquet business grew stronger
Over time, this legacy was entrusted to Joaquín De La Torre in 1992. A visionary man who has the ability to bring out the best in all his collaborators.
