The commercial representation of floral varieties is not merely a distribution agreement; it is, above all, a statement of market vision. Since De Ruiter took on the representation of Jan Spek Rozen — a Dutch breeder with over a century of history — the commitment has been clear: to anticipate a global demand that today calls for unusual forms, high-durability petals, and a distinct varietal identity.

A portfolio built on technical distinction

The first criterion for inclusion was the relevance of the catalogue. Jan Spek Rozen offers a broad range of Garden-type Spray roses, which is precisely the fastest-growing segment in the main export markets. In the Standard line, varieties such as Meli, Ristretto, and Newsflash deliver a combination of aesthetic and agronomic characteristics that set them apart from conventional offerings.

In the garden rose line, Hearts — a variety with more than a decade on the market — stands on three concrete attributes: high-intensity red color, structurally robust petals, and a notably extended vase life. These factors give it a stable commercial performance throughout the year, with pronounced peaks during high-demand dates such as Valentine's Day and Mother's Day.

Apple Jack represents a more specific technical case. Its red-green chromatic contrast and its 100% garden morphology position it in a competitive niche, which it nonetheless occupies with strength.

At least three or four competing varieties with similar coloration attempted to consolidate in this segment without success: their productive parameters did not meet the threshold required by growers.

Apple Jack meets that standard, which explains its current penetration across De Ruiter's three main markets.

Positioning and next moves

The trend toward garden-style flowers — which over the past five years has moved from niche to global mainstream — has directly benefited this portfolio. Hearts, while not strictly a garden rose, responds to that aesthetic and has found in it a second phase of commercial expansion.

The next step lies in Garden-type Sprays. The variety Caulifia, currently in the introduction process, will be the first Spray Garden variety in the joint portfolio. Technical and aesthetic expectations are high, and the projection is that it can enter any market based on its form and coloration.

Strategic outlook

Among the codes and materials currently under evaluation, the direction points toward varieties that break with traditional patterns in the sector: a distinctive identity of their own, removed from the most widely reproduced market standards.

For De Ruiter, representing Jan Spek Rozen is not simply about expanding the catalogue; it is about aligning with a breeder whose longevity in the industry is a guarantee of accumulated genetic expertise and sustained innovation capacity.

The partnership has a long road ahead.
